This set of frequently asked questions discusses activating and licensing mvBase.
Like most software products, mvBase features a security scheme to protect the software license. Within mvBase, this scheme is defined by using System IDs, and activations.
mvBase licenses the number of users concurrently using the system. This is not necessarily the same as the number of processes which are logged on.
Rocket takes the mvBase activation process very seriously. This mechanism is to the benefit of the resellers and ensures that mvBase does not become a public domain product. The Rocket activation database contains thousands of activation records. Every order that is placed is entered into the system. When users are added or software is upgraded, that transaction is both verified and reflected in the mvBase activation database. For each System ID created, information such as the end-user’s name, reseller’s name, mvBase release, number of licensed users, date activated, System ID, and the activation code is recorded.
The System ID is an 8-digit number issued by Rocket as part of the order fulfillment process. All contract and activation history is tied to this number. You must have your System ID in order to get an activation.
The serial number is an 8 or 9 digit Software Serial number that identifies the mvBase version that you have installed.
The magic number (also referred to as the System ID in the mvBase registration form) is the 20-digit alphanumeric number, which is a unique identifier for a system hosting an mvBase Server. Rocket will need this number, along with the System ID, in order to process an activation.
To activate an mvBase system permanently, Rocket must generate an activation code. The activation is targeted to a specific machine in line with the Rocket Software License Agreement. An activation is not restricted to a specific release (but is restricted to a specific version).
When requesting an activation, you need to have the following information:
System ID: | Your valid 8-digit System ID number issued by Rocket. |
Magic Number: | Your 20-digit alphanumeric number in the registration form (also referred to as System ID in the registration field). |
A new activation is required:
When you need to rehost the mvBase Server onto another system.
When you want to increase the number of licensed mvBase users.
When you move to a different version of mvBase.
If you replace or reformat drive C.
Whenever Rocket Engineering creates a new mvBase build for general production it is referred to as a release. A version defines a set of releases that are grouped together for licensing purposes. For example, all 2.0.x releases are referred to as version 2.0.
Yes, but only if that disk contains the C partition.
Yes. Contact your Rocket reseller or sales representative to order the additional users, then call Rocket support or go to the Rocket Web site to obtain your new activation code.
Yes. Please refer to the Software License Agreement which clearly states that mvBase is licensed to a machine. There is a system transfer administration fee for a machine transfer and you will be required to sign a NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION form for the current license. Contact your Rocket reseller or sales representative for more information.
No, not unless you replace or reformat the disk drive containing the C partition.
Activations are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the Rocket office in the United States at (949)-585-9400 or through the Rocket Web site at:
